The Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship is open to international students from all over the world who are interested to undertake postdoctoral research at Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) for the academic year 2023-2024.

About the scholarship

Students from all over the world are eligible to apply for the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarships for the academic year 2023-2024. When chosen, the Scholarship recipient will receive a commission, depending on the scope of the project. For the entire period of the Scholarship, the fee cannot exceed EUR 10,000.

The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) has introduced a new Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship. This scholarship is provided to outstanding researchers at the Austrian National Bank so they can be consultants on a variety of research activities.

Austrian and international experts with postdoctoral research experience in economics and finance are eligible for the Scholarship program. An applicant must be employed by a research institution in Austria or abroad and be interested in broadening their research horizon and expanding their research network.

The benefits of the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship

The recipient of the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship will receive the following benefits:

– Recipients will receive a consultant fee that will vary depending on the scope of the service. 

– The fee cannot be greater than 10,000 Euros throughout the scholarship (excluding the value-added tax). 

– The scholarship recipient is required to pay this fee to satisfy all claims to the OeNB.

In the case of consultancy services subject to value-added tax, the consultancy fee will be increased by the rate of the sales tax (currently 20%).

Note: During the consultancy period, the Scholarship recipient pays for his/her own accommodation. If possible, the OeNB will help the recipient find accommodation in Vienna.

Eligibility Criteria for Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship

To be eligible for the Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship, one should consider these things

Required Language: English.

Eligible Countries: All world countries

→ Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent degree and have published work and conducted scientific research in the fields defined in the Scholarship call.

→ Applicants are open to any nationality and there is no limit on how old you can be.

→ This scholarship can only be applied for by one individual at a time, it is not possible to apply for two at the same time.

→ Eligible applicants are distinguished experts in the field of economics and are well respected in the research community. 

→ An applicant must be in a position of employment with a research institution when they apply and during the period for which the Scholarship is granted.

→ Scholarship recipients are ineligible to re-apply for any more money, and applications to renew an old award are also ineligible.

→ Scholarships are not available to employees of the European Central Bank or other central banks in the European System of Central Banks (ESCB).

How to Apply for Klaus Liebscher Economic Research Scholarship?

(1) Provide the following documents and information:

– A letter of motivation with a provision for a brief or general overview of the period to be covered for consultancy.

– A detailed proposal for consulting services

– Topics and activities of current research

– An academic C.V.

– A full list of the author’s publications.

– The OeNB may contact two references to obtain further information about the applicant.

– Proof of a basic income from an applicant’s home institution must be given, as long as the individual is conducting consulting for the OeNB during the contract.

– A written confirmation from the home institution confirming the Scholarship, i.e. the provision of consultancy services

– The applicant has not violated the conditions of their employment contract with their institution of origin.
